About Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators such as Botox and Letybo have been commonly used in aesthetic medicine since 1989 to reduce wrinkles caused by facial muscle activity. Facial expression lines result from the repetitive muscle contractions associated with our daily emotions. Over time, the skin loses its elasticity, making wrinkles more noticeable.

Neuromodulators are products based on natural proteins (botulinum toxin) approved by Health Canada. They are injected into specific facial muscles and work by blocking the transmission of nerve signals to these muscles, causing temporary relaxation.

Once the muscles are relaxed, wrinkles and fine lines fade, leaving the skin looking smoother and firmer while preserving the natural mobility of untreated facial muscles, resulting in a natural and rested facial appearance.

 FAQs

  • This procedure is generally not very painful, and you may feel a slight pinching for a few seconds during the injection, but it is done using a very fine needle.

  • The entire procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

  • In most cases, initial results will begin to show within 3 to 7 days after treatment, and the final results will appear after about 2 weeks.

The effects of this treatment last for 3 to 6 months. Over time, the concentration of neuromodulators in the treated muscles decreases, allowing these muscles to return to their normal function.

  • For at least 4 to 6 hours post-procedure, it is advisable to avoid tilting the head, wearing hats, and lying down, as this could displace the product. Additionally, during the first 24 hours following the procedure, it is recommended to steer clear of hot showers, intense physical exercise, and sun exposure, as UV rays accelerate the breakdown of the botulinum toxin.

  • This procedure is generally considered very safe. However, there is a temporary risk of bruising, swelling, redness, and headaches.

  • Contraindications to neuromodulator agents are rare but include known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin, neuromuscular disorders, infections at the injection site, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and the use of certain medications such as anticoagulants, aminoglycoside antibiotics, and gentamicin. It is also advisable to avoid alcohol consumption for a few days before the procedure as alcohol increases the risk of bruising.
